About
Hi, I'm Siobhan
I'm a yoga teacher in the Lowveld — but I didn't come to this work from a place of having it all together. I found it in burnout, the kind that builds quietly for years, until my body finally said enough and I could barely move.
Yoga was my coping mechanism long before it became my calling. Now, as a yoga teacher and nervous-system practitioner in the Lowveld, Ginger Roots Yoga is how I hand those tools back to you — yoga, reiki and myofascial release, in person in Phalaborwa and Hoedspruit or online, wherever you are. Not as a fix, but as a way to live a little more gently in your own body.

The long way back to my body
When I burned out, it wasn't subtle. An email would land in my inbox and I'd shake at the sight of it — I simply couldn't function. Twice it reached the point of full-body, excruciating pain: vomiting, migraine, my whole system screaming. That's how I know now when I've hit my absolute limit, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
So I chose to lean into a holistic path — not against anything else, but because I wanted to understand my body rather than override it. I'll be honest with you: this is about management, not a cure. Yoga won't fix everything, and it was never meant to. What it can do is give you a way to meet yourself, again and again, on and off the mat.
I started with the fast, hard stuff — hatha, vinyasa, throwing myself upside down to cope. I trained as a 200-hour teacher, accredited by Yoga Alliance, and I loved the intensity of it. But my body didn't need more push. It needed to slow down.
That December I trained in Yin, and it flipped a switch. The first few sessions were honestly awful — I had no idea how to be still. Then something softened. Now I catch myself mid-rush in ordinary life and remember what Yin taught me: slow down. You're allowed to.
Then there's the body's deeper holding. Years of carrying heavy camera gear, handstands, and long days hunched over editing locked my left shoulder into a knot I couldn't shift. I tried physio, and it helped — but I wanted to understand what my body was carrying, not only be treated for it. Training in myofascial release with Unwind™ gave me exactly that: the ability to feel what's going on and work with it myself. It's been quietly empowering.
Reiki followed me around for years before I finally trained in it. I've since watched what it does — for people and for animals both — the way something settles, softens, lets go. I feel it too. It's the part of my work I can least explain and most trust.
And the meditations? They began just for me, for the days when everything felt like too much. I could never find ones I actually enjoyed, so I made my own — then thought, why keep them to myself. Now they live on my YouTube, for whenever you need them.
There's another thread woven through all of this: I'm also a photographer. For years I've worked with people all over the world, and it taught me something that sits right at the heart of this work — how much bringing calm, present energy into a space changes what unfolds in it. Camera or mat, it's the same craft: helping someone feel safe enough to be truly seen. You'll find that side of me at S Brazier Photography.
“I'm woo-woo, wholeheartedly — and grounded and honest, too. I can't fix you. But I can share what helped me find my way back to my body, and walk beside you while you find yours.”
